3.3 Medical power

Principles

Because air medical transport frequently interfaces with ground transport, it is desirable to implement standards for electrical power in the air which are compatible with those in ground vehicles. To this end, a common outlet type is used for both 24-28V dc and 12V dc supplies. This allows a common equipment cable and connector to be used in both air and ground vehicles.

Secondly, since multiple devices may require external power, demand for vehicle outlets is reduced if standardised secondary power outlets are provided within medical transport equipment or systems to power supplementary equipment.
