Vale - Gerhard Kugler
It is with great sadness to announce that Gerhard Kugler died in Germany on
November 3rd, 2009. He suffered from advanced cancer.
Gerhard was the Honorary President of EHAC and the leader of the
development of helicopter emergency medical services in Germany and Europe.
He was the former General Manager of ADAC Luftrettung GmbH. This famous
HEMS operation owes much of its success to his vision and leadership.
In 2000 he founded EHAC, the European HEMS and Air Ambulance Committee
which recently signed a memorandum of understanding with ISAS. This
trade association has been instrumental in bringing together 48 member
organisations from 18 countries to represent the needs and interests of
air medicine to government and aviation regulators.
He attended the ISAS (Australasia) meeting in Sydney in 1993 and formed
and maintained strong links with airmedical colleagues in Australia and
New Zealand since then. Subsequently, he attended several ISAS
conferences in both New Zealand and Australia - such was his interest
in forging world-wide cooperation and collaboration to improve air
medicine generally.
He was a giant in the field of air medicine.
His influence will be long-lived.
His memory will live long in the hearts of many.
